History

The Rwandan genocide was the fighting and killing of Tutsis. There was over 800,000 people killed and murdered. The Rwandan Genocide started from the assassination of Juvenal Habyarimana on april 6, 1994 and ended in mid July. This was a mass killing of Tutsis and Hutus over a short amount of time. Actors and Victims

The Genocide in Rwanda was said to be caused by Hutu extremist's who wanted to contain all of the power over the Tutsis's. The Hutu's already had 90% of the power in Rwanda and went to take it all. The Hutu's were responsible for most of the mass murdering and killing.

Similarities of Hutus and Tutsis

The two ethnic groups were very similar by their traditions, they stay in same area and speak the same language. The Tutsis's are usually talller and thinner and every Tutsi and Hutu have indentity cards showing what ethnic group they belong to. The Hutu's and Tutsis weren't all killed, some of them fled to surrounding countries for protection. These countries were Burundi, Uganda, and Tanzania.

International Response

The response to the genocide in Rwanda was taking to hand by the french and The U.N. who helped control the genocide and help the matter. The United States did not act on the genocide in Rwanda like the french and the U.N.

Aftermath

Many Hutus and Tutsis fled to surrounding countries, to get away from the genocide. Those countries were Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and partially to Zaire. Thousands of Rwandans were killed from diseases from the over populated refugee camps which caused epidemics of Cholera and Dysentery disease.

Result of genocide

The result to the genocide in Rwanda was not a good thing. The Genocide lead to over 1,000,000 victims of genocide. The death toll was a total of over 800,000 people. The Country will never be the same after the genocide in 1994 and will always be a huge thing to look back on.
