Genocide-a form of violent social conflict, or war between power organizations that aim to destroy civilian social groups and other actors who resist this destruction. Armed power organization destroying unarmed social groups. Martian Shaw

Sides-The Turks commited the genocide against the Armenians becuse the Armenians were the only Christians in the Ottoman empire

History of the genocide

  • February 21st Turks began boycotting Armenian buissiness'
  • July 28th Turks and Germans begins negotiations
  • august 2nd secret treaty signed placing turks under german command
  • August 3rd Turkish gov. sends relocation letters
  • August 8th telegrams are cencored by turkish gov.
  • August 18th turks loot armenian business falsely saying they were taking war supplies
    • 1,080 Armanian shops burned to the ground
  • August 22nd Armenian men beetween 20 and 45 Drafted into Turkish forces
  • August 28th Turkish troops garrisoned in Armenian schools
  • September 30th Gov. gives Muslims weapons claiming armenians are unreliable
  • Nazaret Chavush, Armenian leader, murdered
  • All important Armenians called to meeting and arested
  • mass execution of Armenian soldiers

Reaction- The Armenians didn't comprehend what was hapening.  There stores and weapons were taken from them under the false pretense that it would be used to help the war effort. All the Armenian men were drafted into the Germans front lines. That is when the Turks took the Armenians to the camps saying that there homes were no longer safe. Most of the Armenians were killed on the way to the camps. They couldn't help themselves and were unable to do anythig to stop it. Finaly the allied forces ocupied Turky and liberated the Armenians.

Aftermath-

Allied forces ocuppied Turkey and broke Turkey into Armenia and Turkey The Armenians were released from the camps and given homes to live in and protection for a time.

 Lessons Learned-

The world has just found out about the atrocities commited. I belive we have all learned that Genocide is bad as we have learned from all previous genocides but this travels deeper. I believe that we also learned that it's not right to cover up what happend. Its like turning our back on a whole group of people and hoping no one finds out about it.

Critics- The only critics of the genocide happen to be the Turks. Which is likely to happen in all genocides.
